![]() ![]() Deleting files or folders via the File Browser currently hard deletes it without even using the system Trash.Same thing is needed for the Outliner, could be solved similarly. We could make shift-clicking select all items in-between.We are still emulating Windows 3.1 here, which is. ![]() It's no longer a convention in any of the OS's we support.Might be a good time to remove the '.' buttons to go to the parent directory. This could be made a single, consistent option that applies to all temporary windows (File Browser, Preferences, Render window). In this state, you still see the active scene and the active view layer, as well as tool settings, all of which make no sense.Currently, using the File Browser takes over the whole window, with a small 'Back to Previous' button. We could make it open as a new window by default, which makes it easier to close again, and is more consistent with the Preferences window. With recent work related to the Asset Browser, we made updated UI diagrams: (Disregard the UI styling here, it's not related to this task) Mockups & Diagramsīack in 2013, we made these mockups, to visualise what an updated File Browser could look like: File path at the top, file name along the bottomīy following the basic common design and layout, Blender will fit in more nicely with all three platforms.Ability to sort items by clicking on the category headers. The sorting is separate from the data-view columnsĪs it turns out, the three main platforms we support use a surprisingly similar layout for Open/Save dialogs:.The operator settings take up too much room, even when it's not needed. The header is overcrowded and not easy to read. The execution button (Open/Save etc) is in the top right. The general layout doesn't communicate the hierarchy well.IssuesĬurrently, the File Browser has a number of issues: IMHO, images are great to thumbnails, Powerpoint sometimes, PDF depends what was created, Word and Excell are harder to see! Anyway, using XYplorer "mouse down blow up", even Word and Excell could be handle in order to obtain satisfactory visualization (faster than preview if the intent is just to see first document page). This follows on from #37982 (all the way back in 2013!) which included several plans and UI designs for updating the File Browser layout and interface.Īs discussed with on IRC, we were going to follow on from that old topic, but decided to create a fresh File Browser design task instead. To remove added thumbnail it is just "saved as" again and uncheck thumbnail box. However, the thumbnails of Word and Excel (for instance) are almost unreadable, because of the amount of information this kind of files common have. ![]() After have saved Office files with thumbnails I could visualize them into XYplorer. It is easy to see a check box in the save dialog window. The thumbnail visualization of Office files is attached (in many cases) with the need of generate the thumbnail when "saving as". However I didn't test it and I don't know about this website and the available file integrity. in which the installation file is available yet. However the development of Renesis was stopped. The good news is that Sagethumbs is free and is available in many languages. I mean, it is supposed additional step to be possible visualize multilayer (I don't know how). Howerver, the thumbnails (and preview) to multilayer images is "black". ![]() It provides further resources through context menu. It provides thumbnails to many formats, including RAW, XCF (Gimp), PSD, PSP, AI. However, Mysticthumbs is available to 30 day trial only, and license has cost (applied just to the current version next version you need to pay upgrade). Although Mysticthumbs doesn't provide support to XCF (Gimp) yet, through a contact with developer he told me this will be implemented soon (next releases) of the current version. It provides further resources through context menu (mouse right click). Also, the view "details with thumbnails" is updated.Īfter having proceed with tests on them, follow more comprehensive comments.įrom all I have tested this has the broad support, including multilayer formats (PSD, PSP), SVG, AI and RAW. What is amazing it is that XYplorer still providing "hold left click" expansion image (mouse down blow up - ) to all thumbnail/preview not supported by default (SVG, PSPIMAGE, AI, EPS etc.). Besides thumbnail, they improve XYplorer preview as well. Former I have posted information about third-party software that provides thumbnail visualization through Windows Explorer and also XYplorer ( ). ![]()
